Ok, well one week down, 8 more to go in Piper's pregnancy. :-) She is acting and eating normal, so no changes there. At this stage the fertilized egg is growing from one cell to a bundle of 64 cells. They are slowly making their way down the uterus and spreading out into the spot where they will eventually attach. Piper should be kept calm during this time. We are going for long easy walks (much to her dismay--she is used to off leash tearing around)
As far as feeding she gets her normal food and amount. Every morning she gets 1 folic acid supplement. This is supposed to decrease the incident of Dermoid Sinus in a RR. When consulting my Repro vet about this he said "he is unsure if it really helps, but it can not hurt so why not? " Piper has gotten this almost every day of her whole life.
I am glad to hear Piper is doing well! Thank you so much for the information, it's very interesting :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I have learned so much in the past few weeks. :)
ReplyDeleteI am glad you both think so--then I am doing my job correctly. To me, being a good breeder means education should be part of that process. It is easy to just buy a dog off the internet, or Craig's list. I want you to know that it is a lot of work when done correctly and so you know how much I value each and every pup leaving my house. My special girl, Piper, will only have a few limited pups EVER to pass on her genes. I choose very carefully who gets them. They truly all are special to me and I hope you remember that when I am bugging you for pictures or updates in the future hehe :-) -Angie
DeleteDitto on learning a lot. Love the updates and the list of what happens on certain dates. At least now I can figure out when puppies go home! Keep it up.
