Day # 4

WOW, I can hardly believe the pups are 4 days old already!  They are growing so much each day.  Little tater tot has gained another 1.75 oz.  Jabba gained 3 oz.  The rest of the litter is in between the 2 ranges.

Now they are developing their voices and each one seems to be taking turns being  the "talker" of the litter each day. They do a whole range of high pitched screams, low grunts, and now they do a adorable kind of trilling yodel and some are starting the "puppy bark" while they sleep.   Piper makes some hilarious expressions at them.

Is everyone enjoying the webcam?   Also, I am sure you saw from the webcam their locomotion is pretty good.  They can scoot very well across the  box.  we have to be vigilant as ever to ensure they do not get buried in the blankets.

If you see me on the camera and I am not rescuing a puppy, I am probably doing the "super dog program" exercises to the pups.  This program was developed by Carmen Battaglia.  From days 3 through days 14 there are 5 things that you do to each puppy for 3-5 seconds.  These exercises encourage the circulatory system, and neuro system to go "outside the box" a little and the results are a smarter, more trainable puppy.  Feel free to google it.  :-)

  1. There appears to be a volume option on the puppy cam but I don't hear anything - does that mean you don't have a microphone hooked up so we can hear them yodel? I have a number of friends who are hooked on the puppy cam, who keep emailing me to say Piper sat on a puppy or one has crawled under a piece of bedding. And about the time I hear from them, I'm watching you remove a puppy from the covers or adjusting Piper so each puppy gets fed. So fascinating and I'm sooooo grateful that you use a puppy cam. My husband is even watching it and asking questions - like why Piper isn't in the box if she's gone out to pee - he's worrying about her absence. I love knowing he is watching them too.
I'm so jealous that Lanalee got to see and hold them yesterday!! Wish I was there too.

  2. haha, Blaze, you can tell your husband she was out of the box today for a little while because she decided to continue excavating her "den" outside (these hormones are wierd) so because her feet and mammary glands were coated in MUD I had to give her a bath!!

Also, Brian had to go back to work today so I am alone so I keep her from the box when I putting on the crock pot of chili so she did not smush one while I was in the kitchen distracted :-)

The cam does have volume, I turned it off to spare you the loudness of Piper and the pups, plus in the background us yelling at FOosa and Kayin to stay out of the whelping room :-)

Piper i a GREAT mom. She is very protective and gets concerned if I even remove a puppy from the box. I have to sneak them out to weigh them ;-P -Angie

    1. I have noticed that Piper is very observant if you have a puppy out and then it's almost like she counts each puppy to make sure all 9 are back in place. So much fun to watch.
